I recently visited a fancy hotel that had very fluffy towels. These were great except that, like with most fluffy towels I've tried, little bits came off (the towel) when I dried myself. I'm looking for a towel with a high fluffiness quotient that won't leave me with a Santa beard.

Does such a product exist and where might I buy it from in the UK?

Update: I spotted some Bamboo towels the other day that make the following claims:

These towels are super-soft and three times more absorbent than cotton. Bamboo yields a soft, absorbent fibre that is great for making thirsty bath towels and because it's fast-growing, soil enhancing and doesn't require synthetic encouragement, it's a great environmentally friendly, sustainable alternative for your bathroom.

If this is the case it looks promising from an environmental, fluffiness, and absorbency perspective.
Does anyone have experience of these bamboo towels and can they substantiate the claims?

I think it comes down to the following:

New towels = fluffy, but with bits that come off on your beard
Old towels = not so fluffy, don't shed

Also, fluffiness can equate to use of softener which reduces the effectiveness of the towel. Give me a rough absorbant towel over a fluffy hydrophobic one any day.

For the record, I got a big bale of white towels from Costco about 7 years ago which have been very good and I'm only now thinking of replacing them. For comparison, other towels (supposedly 'premium' quality) I bought from Debenhams only 3 years ago already feel like they have lost about half their thickness.

+1 I think you are right for cotton towels. I've updated my question after finding bamboo towels on Amazon – Rich Seller Dec 1 at 14:34
I've experienced bamboo material before in reuseable nappies (Bamboozles) and it is certainly soft to begin with. Although I never tried rubbing them against my beard(!) I would say that the material didn't appear to look like it would shed. Maybe bamboo is the way to go! – juux Dec 2 at 9:24

I dry my towels in the dryer and they come out softer then if I let the dry on the washing line. Instead of softener I use a little bit of vinigar (white colorless) and not too much...

Thanks, but I try to avoid using the dryer if I can because it eats electricity. – Rich Seller Dec 22 at 11:27

I bought some of the bamboo towels, and (so far at least) they are as awesome as a towel can be. They are very soft and incredibly absorbent, with no fluff coming off, even on my stubble. When warm they smell faintly woody, not sure if that will go after a few washes, but it is a pleasant smell.
