I have reclaimed-wood flooring that has been salvaged from an old warehouse and it looks like the wood has been treated in the past with an oil base finish. I have heard that water and vinegar will do the trick. Any other suggestions?

I find that mopping with plain pH-neutral soap and water (you can use liquid dishwashing soap) and a barely damp mop is sufficient for everyday cleaning. Vinegar and water seems to leave the wood dingy and doesn't shift the dirt as well. When you clean. mop in the direction of the wood grain and rinse the mop regularly, wringing it completely each time. When the water gets dirty replace it with more soapy water. When finished, go back over the entire surface with clean water to rinse. |
